shower drain

This really isn't a plumbing question, but since it is in reference to my shower I am hoping someone can answer.

I have a small stall shower with the drain in the middle of the floor. I have long hair that likes to fall out and get washed down the drain. I can see the hair at the bottom of the drain because the pipe is in a L shape. I tried to remove the drain which has two philips head screws. I was succcessful at removing one, but the other I nearly removed the X from atop the screw.

(1)How can I get the screw off which is nearly stripped?
(2)What can I put in or ontop of the drain to catch hair but not interfere since the drain is in the middle of the floor?

Thanks
